At ESTI, we are driven by the urgent need to address Global Developmental Delays (GDD) in children aged 0–8, especially from underserved communities. our approach is grounded in the globally recognized Nurturing Care Framework and adapted to local realities in Tanzania.
One of the first families we worked with was that of Mama Neema, a mother of four. Her youngest child, Baraka, aged 3, had not yet started speaking and was struggling to engage with other children. Through our partnership with local community health workers, Baraka was screened and found to have signs of Global Developmental Delay (GDD).
Baraka’s family began simple home-based stimulation activities using everyday materials. Mama Neema received counseling and support on nutrition, play, and communication techniques. Community leaders were engaged to reduce stigma and promote early detection.
After 3 months, Baraka began using basic words, responding to his name, and showed improved emotional expression. This pilot showed the power of early intervention, caregiver empowerment, and community-based solutions.
